Jerry West joined The Murph and Mac Show Tuesday sounding off on how the NBA today isn’t physical and how Zaza isn’t entirely to blame for Kawhi Leonard.
The bottom line is that basketball pundits are latching onto ways to discredit the Warriors. They’ll say they play dirty. They’ll say they play opponents who have major injuries. Leonard joins Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving as star players to suffer an injury against Golden State.
Pachulia called the idea that it was a dirty play “really stupid” after the game and dismissed any notion he was trying to hurt the Spurs’ NBA MVP candidate. “I’m an athlete too, I know how it feels and I don’t wish that [on] anybody. Even though we are facing against them, I’m pretty sure we are capable of beating anybody.”
In a game 3 win over the Utah Jazz last round, Zaza Pachulia scored seven points, while Klay Thompson scored just six. After the game, Zaza posted on Instagram to commemorate what he called the “historic” occasion of him outscoring Thompson. At practice Friday, Zaza took it one step further.
Warriors strength coach Curtis Rayfield and center Zaza Pachulia have had a bet going all season that if Pachulia recorded a double-double and a dunk in one game, Rayfield would shave his beard.
Warriors starting center Zaza Pachulia will be out for at least a week with a right rotator cuff strain sustained while diving for a loose ball in Golden State’s 113-111 victory over the Blazers on Sunday.
The Warriors and Thunder meet two more times this season, including February 11th in Oklahoma City. That game will also mark Kevin Durant’s first game in Oklahoma City since signing with the Warriors in the off-season.
