On Tuesday night at Oracle Park, what had been inevitable for nearly two months now finally became official. The 2025 Giants, one of the most schizophrenic teams in Bay Area sports history, were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. A Mets win coupled with the Giants embarrassing late inning collapse against the Cardinals mercifully ended a three month trudge of mediocrity.
A two week hot stretch by the streaky Giants to begin September briefly galvanized hope amongst the fan base, but as they did all year long, the Giants quickly plummeted back down to Earth once there was any semblance of pressure. For the eighth time in the last nine seasons, the Giants won’t be taking part in the MLB postseason.

On Wednesday morning, Murph had a pointed interpretation of Webb’s comments regarding Buster Posey, and how he won’t be satisfied with mediocrity. Webb said to reporters that this team is “the most talented I’ve been a part of” which only exacerbates the frustration of another barely sub .500 campaign.
"If I'm Buster Posey, I hear in (Webb's quote) that Bob Melvin has to go."
