For a 20-27 team, the Giants sure have a lot of traffic jams on the roster. They called up Bryce Eldridge, and now somehow can’t seem to find him a spot in the starting lineup even half the time. Logan Webb went down with a knee injury, and Trevor McDonald stepped in and has been excellent.
This crowded roster conundrum was touched on by both Mike Krukow and Andrew Baggarly on Monday morning with Murph & Markus. With Heliot Ramos on the shelf with a hamstring injury, outfield space for the versatile and always willing Casey Schmitt has put that math problem on the back burner.
Andrew Baggarly wondered aloud whether the Giants’ entire Bryce Eldridge plan when calling up the young star was to sit him against lefties, or if facing lefties, and inevitably struggling, would be part of his development. Either way, it’s clear among fans that Eldridge isn’t gaining much from sitting on the bench.
Logan Webb is scheduled to return to the Giants’ rotation this weekend when the club hosts the White Sox. Obviously, he’ll slide back in as scheduled. But the question comes at the back end. Tyler Mahle hasn’t been bad. Adrian Houser has actually been good. But Trevor McDonald has actually been better than both. Buster Posey and Zack Minasian are not in an enviable position.
As Baggarly told Murph & Markus, McDonald remaining in the rotation would be justice served.

"They do have a tricky situation, with McDonald, if there's any justice he stays on the big league staff in some capacity, but if he's the No. 6 starter in your org, you want him to stay… pic.twitter.com/AmUtwqKydE
"Are they gonna sit him against all left-handed pitching or is facing lefties going to be an important part of his development?"
