Terrell Owens can relate to Antonio Brown. Owens was once considered the most controversial receiver in the NFL during his playing days, known as much for his game-breaking ability as his off-the-field antics.
The same can be said for Brown who while considered by most to be the best receiver in football, has been cut from two teams within the last month for a myriad of football and non-football issues.
Owens was at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday before the 49ers home opener vs. the Steelers, and said he’d love to speak to Brown at some point.
“I would love to talk to him personally,” Owens said. “We all go through life and we are going to make mistakes. They are going to be things that we look back on and wish we could’ve done differently. I am sure he will get to that point in his life but he has to do what’s best for himself and his family. Like I said it’s unfortunate what’s going on with him right now. I understand to a degree what he’s doing and what’s going on with him.”
Though Owens reiterated multiple times that he has no interest in a public conversation with Brown, he also made it clear that we should wait to assume Brown is guilty of the multiple sexual assault allegations that have been levied against him.
“If I share anything with Antonio it will be in private,” Owens said. “Antonio is a good friend of mine it is unfortunate what is going on. I will say the guy is innocent until proven guilty just even with everything that has transpired with him.
“Things keep coming out by public opinion, they are automatically going to consider him guilty without the proper due process. Other than that, that’s all I can say. That’s a friend of mine. Like I said I don’t condone any and everything that has happened with him. I wish him well.”
Brown is currently a free agent after being released by the Patriots earlier this week.
