The Celtics are considered favorites to win the 2022-23 NBA Title by most sports books. Reportedly, they are looking into a move that would widen the gap between them and the rest of the field.
Boston has emerged as an interested party in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, and has begun engaging with the Nets in talks according to ESPN.
A potential deal would center around forward Jaylen Brown, with Jayson Tatum reportedly off the table. The Nets would also reportedly want three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029) — and two pick swaps (2024 and 2026). At this point, the Celtics aren’t any closer than the other interested teams — Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors — to striking a deal.
Brown, 25, has two-years and $56 million left on his deal. He appeared to respond to the report on Twitter Monday morning.
Brown being traded this offseason would be a cruel twist of fate. The former Cal product was clearly the best player for the Celtics in the NBA Finals vs. the Warriors, playing excellent defense while averaging over 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
